Ha'aowk are given the opportunity to try multiple roles within their community as they grow to adulthood. Some retain those multiple roles and remain flexible, able to do many of the tasks required of feeding, guarding, and caring for their colony. But some are born with an innate, powerful drive towards one task. A task they fulfill with single-minded determination and purpose. When Ka'ahkai was born, she flailed and tumbled restlessly about the nest. Once her eyes opened at two weeks of age, her parents took one look at those vivid, intense green eyes. Saw the voracious curiosity with which she took in the world around her and knew she was to be a Watcher.
