Kirk is a Dewott (wearing a Cyndaquil kigurumi) with a strange case of everstone syndrome, meaning he can't evolve into a Samurott. Though there is a way he's able to do it, with the use of a family heirloom, in the form of a Hisuian Samurott helmet. When he puts it on, it allows him to temporarily evolve into a Shiny Alpha Hisuian Samurott, but with some extra pudge (and wearing a nice kimono). His ancient grandpa was a sumo wrestler, so it's the form he takes on when he wears the helmet. He can always take it off to become his Dewott self again.
