Goliath awoke with the usual rush of energy, stone flakes cracking off his body as he let out a beastly roar. He took one step forward, and then stumbled- something was off. As he leapt from his perch, the rest of his clan gathered, and they stared with wide eyes.
"Goliath…!" Lexington gaped. "You look…"
"Enormous!" Brooklyn provided. "Are you alright? What happened?"
"I…" Goliath began, his deep voice coming out as a growl that took him by surprise. "I am unsure…"
Clouds cleared, casting the hulking gargoyle in rays of moonlight, and highlighting his severely augmented form. Every part of his already powerful frame rippled with new, bulging muscle- his chest jutted past his strong chin, his square jaw framed by a pillar of a neck. His shoulders surged, feeding into the muscles of his wings- once lean tendons, now bulky masses to hold him aloft. His back heaved outwards, lats pressing up against arms corded with swollen muscle, his biceps alone bigger than his head. His gait had widened, as his legs as well had been enlarged with trunk-like thighs and well-sculpted calves.
"What manner of sorcery is this?" the oldest gargoyle, Hudson, grumbled. "How do you feel, lad?"
"I- I feel fine," Goliath rumbled. He raised up one arm, claws teasing against muscle that wouldn't give.
"Look! Your toe! It's been fixed!" Broadway said.
Goliath had to lean far to see past the heaving mass of his pectorals. "So it has."
"Then… the restoration crew did this?" Brooklyn asked.
"Has to be. But how?" Lexington asked.
"There are many questions to be considered," Goliath said, the stone pavement cracking as he stomped forward. "But none will be answered here. We must ask Elisa- she can question them directly in the daytime." A sudden idea came to Goliath, and he huffed out a lone chuckle, making his engorged chest bounce.
"What is it, Goliath?" Brooklyn asked.
"I just had a thought- a passing fancy, you could say-" he curled his arm again, watching his bicep swell dramatically. "Perhaps we can find something to test out. I wonder if this transformation is more than just looks. If I have extra strength to bear, well. It can't hurt to know for certain…"
