Based on dugout houses built in the southwest 100 years ago. These houses combined European and Native American features. A European rectangular plan and log stacking construction method combined with the traditional log structured domed earth Hogan of the southwest region. These could be built quickly with limited tools and almost entirely of local materials. Being partially buried helped to insulate the house from the brutal heat of the region. Roofing was earth. They lasted as housing from the late 1800s to the 1940s or so, when the remainder were abandoned in favor of more modern housing.
I based my pic on the idea that they remained as common rural housing into the present day, and maybe even were altered with additions and modern materials in places. Not happy with how the junk came out in front. Looks kinda out of place, but can't put my finger on why. Kid is supposed to be a Coyote, a very common animal in the region. He's supposed to be holding a pop gun. Not sure if that came out well though.
