Whip is a very bard weapon. It is unusual, it had flair, and it keeps you out of close quarters with nasty critters. Also, bards don't much care for heavy armor, it's cumbersome and uncomfortable. (To my knowledge, it isn't in their skill set.)

Ah. Smart. At least in DnD 5th Edition.
Heavy armor by itself can be cumbersome, but it can be surprisingly mobile if I may say so myself (Armored fursuiter, at your service)
I was simply thinking of employing her big size as an asset when trampling over her foes. 400+ kilograms of mass, metal and anger trampling over you ought to be quite a sight :D
