Hey, I came over from I love critique, :)
Your drawing and composition isn't too bad if a little cliched but I honestly have to ask why you're using the smudge tool? Smudge never looks anything like fur, it looks like smears. Seriously even if you quickly scribble in general colours, it will still look better than smudging.
Smudge is a photo tool, it's not really a digital colouring tool. Many people try to use it as the latter though and it rarely looks right.
One thing I have to mention is light and shadow, specifically that you have none, the rock especially is just one tone, it could do with some texture and shadows, with the moon in that position you actually wouldn't see all of that rock, you'd just see some faint rough edges where the moon light is hitting it where the wolf's shadow doesn't fall. Indeed much of this image is way too bright for nighttime, trees are night are near black, so all we should see is the outline and perhaps a sprinkle of texture where the moonlight is hitting the branches.
The wolf could benefit from darker shades on him as well, don't be affraid of extreme shades, it's better to overdo it than to underdo it cos underdoing it results in flat images.
Also anatomically wise? Your wolf has a very long neck perhaps a variety of images to study would have avoided that.
