Mayfurr because I liked his art and characters. I was bored and had nothing to do, so I read through some of his 'Super Collie Adventures' stories. Reading the stories made me want to draw Super Collie herself, so here she is in all her blue and gold glory! :-D I suppose you could call it giftart/fanart.
As with every new picture I produce nowadays, I tried several new things with this:
I made the shading more obvious, as in previous pictures my shading wasn't really evident.
I put in a shadow so you can actually see where the light source is coming from.
I added lighting on the hair so it looks all glossy. Yay!
IT R WOMANZ! Hurp derp derp! :-P Seriously though, I only had one female in my FA gallery.
I hope I got everything correct in Super Collie's design. I used multiple references of her, so it should be ok. If not, I can always change minor details (this is the reason I always keep my old .xcf files).
The background is from this picture: http://www.ecosystema.ru/08nature/w.....1nz-s/006e.htm
The character 'Super Collie' belongs to both John Plunkett & Terry Knight.

Ermm... Are you able to draw anything using the mouse? I know it sounds stupid, but it could possibly be because you don't actually have a blank image/canvas to draw on. Ignore this if it's not the case.
If the program (GIMP) stops responding when using your pen tablet, you might have to do a similar workaround to what I did with my old computer. When I opened GIMP using my mouse and then switched to the pen tablet, the program locked up. I just got around this by opening the program with my pen tablet to begin with (aka double tapping the GIMP icon on my desktop with my pen). This allowed me to use both the tablet and mouse in GIMP with no problems.
If those things I mentioned don't work, then I have no idea.
