Im surprised they dont get sold to other RRs over the scrappers torch. Most likely in the aim of fuel economy, and subsidies.

hard to get my head around u-boats being bound for scrap. when i was growing up, it was all f-units and gp/sd 7s and 9s. anything with more then 1750hp/unit was almost all brand new.
of course, to be fair, that was more then 40 years ago.
