"Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade! Hide your face so the world will never find you." -Masquerade, Phantom of the Opera

The costume ball always sounded so boring to Malfosa.
"Nothing but a bunch of pompous, bickering old bitties trying to outdo each other's costumes," he always thought.
Going on treasure hunts with the younglings was always more fun... even though every year he was always the only adult participating. Whenever another gryphon asked "Aren't you a little old to be going on scavenger games?", Mal would always shrug and say that he was escorting the little ones to make sure that they were safe.
This year, after much poking and prodding, Mal's friends convinced him to join the ball... because it would be a good opportunity to meet females from the other aerys.
Mal was one of the last to arrive. He was dressed as a fox, wearing a leather mask and colorful tribal patterns painted onto his body with orange paint. Beads and trinkets were tied into his mane. He had chosen that particular costume very carefully because he thought it would make him look sexy.
Mal shuffled around nervously... wondering to himself why he even showed up since he felt so out of place.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spoted a colorful costume that caught his eye. A female gryphon was dressed in a canine skull mask with anters and her body was painted in vibrant fall colors.
Shyly, he approached the female, extended a hand and asked her to dance. She took hishand and the two swirled into the night sky.

About the Picture:
My drawing for the Aspect of Balodius event for Windsonde
Argh! I wish I would have had more time to work on this, but the deadline to turn these in was fast approaching and I had other priorities popping up out of nowhere... most of them dealing with the upcoming holiday.
Still something quick and fun to give me a break from other pictures I should be working on.
The other gryphon in the picture is *nashoba-hostina 's owliegryph, Cotuil. Love her choice of costume, BTW... the use of skull and bright colors reminds me of the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico!
