Tabari wears the traditional outfit of his homeland's warriors, and he wears it well indeed~
One of the clothing refs for my cober, by
tera633 , suitable for living in Damascera in both modern and fantasy times!
The people of the desert city of Damascera practice a form of fighting that centers around mobility and quick strikes, requiring incredible reactions and the ability to anticipate your opponent's movements. Armor and clothing is minimal and light, to avoid hindering fighters in any way as well as keeping cool. While the heart and upper torso are protected, the midriff is kept bare; This is due to traditional beliefs that the belly is the center of life, and that it is the responsibility of a warrior to guard their life with their skill and avoid being struck at all. That said, it is common for the armor to be enhanced with some chain or plates, and for the outfit to be woven with spells providing protection from battle and heat alike, as well as enhancing mobility across the sands and scrublands beyond the city walls.
Tabari also wears a cape along with his outfit, which marks him as a member of House Devereaux, one of the city's ruling houses, whose domain is banking and trade. The garment, its medallion clasp, and the colors of black, white, and red all make his affiliation unmistakable. As he is expected to engage in trade and act as a representative of his House, the medallion is enchanted to allow him to alter the appearance and style of his clothes as necessary in order to maintain proper etiquette. As he is also expected to do the dirty work, it can provide camouflage in various environments as well. The cestus worn on his left hand isn't strictly a part of the outfit, but its metal plating and attachment points for accessories and a forearm shield make it a stunningly versatile tool in offense, defense, and utility alike.
The sash Tabari wears about his waist is one of the few things allowing him to express himself, rather than solely conforming to his House. These sashes are very important in Damasceran culture, as each is embroidered with the wearer's life story as told through the symbols of their family and of significant life events. It is usual for the wearer's bloodline to be inscribed on the sash when it is first presented to them, typically at the beginning of their teenage years when they start the transition to adulthood. Other marks and lines are added along the way, most often by the hand of close friends and lovers as they come to be considered family, though any who enter the service of a House will invariably have those markings embroidered as well. Tabari's own sash carries only the symbols of his lovers and House Devereaux, however. The reasons are a bit complicated, but he'll probably have his father's marks there someday.
It's been really fun doing all this worldbuilding, both for my own stories with Equinox, and in fitting Tabari and Damascera into Tera's game world! It's exciting coming up with designs and then figuring out all the history and backstory to them, why things are the way they are.
This is one of several outfit references that were made, but I won't be uploading most of them here. In no small part because they're largely just variation versions with different sections removed. Do keep your eyes out for one more soon though. ;3
