Alan has always been upset that his or anyone else's magic rarely if ever has a physical effect on him other than nausea and mild discomfort. He's tried so much magical methods and incantation with failure, that he's truly happy to find a loop hole. By drinking enough potions at once it was bound to bloat him out if only by the volume of the potions, if not for their intended effects. Still now that he has this knowledge, other non-magic techniques may be available in his quest to get big.

Hm...Would he be able to use the Magic to increase the Volume of Potion inside of him?
Technically, he is not using his magic on himself, but a potion inside him?
Or, create a large body of water, shrink it down, but set it on a timer so it slowly returns to it's original size after he consumes it?

No it has a buttery flavor, but it’s easy when you understand the flavor, goes down smooth, and causes delayed effect fat gains, a month of daily cream is like 20 lbs gained, tho seeing a slow sequence of Alan trying cream chugging would be adorable, it writes itself! Drink a bunch, lose a little, for a few weeks nothing happens, then bwompf, pudgy tummy

A Potion of Produce Potion. A voluminous liquid that refills itself when drank up to the container its housed within. Pouring out the entire potion into a new bottle or flask causes it to continually try and produce more of itself until it has filled its new container.
Caution: Avoid storing entire potion in any non solid or stretchy "containers."

If he can't do it with magic, he'll just have to grow the old fashioned way! Bike pump, air compressor, garden hose, fire hydrant or food binge. Pick your poison. He'll end up rounding out in one way or another. While I am usually biased towards fat, I can't help thinking about Alan as a big ol' water balloon. Liquid inflation seems to suit him more I think.

If magic could trap helium gas in bubbles of heavy, digestible liquid, the magic would only be bringing the two substances together. The liquid would be digestible--and the helium would act like helium--regardless of magic. So if Alan could make such a potion, he should be able to gain the effects of the helium by drinking it.
