Book 1: The Fear Ripper
Chapter 1: The Birth of Evil
Part 2: The Order of Ignitus
The night was very calm, a few birds and crickets were singing around the Cheetah camps. You could hear a few footsteps from the guards who took turns guarding the doors. The 5 dragons, and the dragonfly who slept in a kind of small extinguished torch which served as a hammock, slept peacefully, and their dreams began to form, but a few things happened again.
Flame opened his eyes, and he found himself alone in a large round, dead-end room, made of carved stones, with a kind of huge giant hourglass in the middle of the room, with sparkling blue liquid that lit up all the walls. The red dragon stood up in a panic and screamed.
"Spyro !... Cynder !... Sparx, Ember, Ashes !"
He breathed faster but struggled to stay calm, because it didn't feel like a prison. So he hadn't been abducted in his sleep, and then he didn't feel immediately in danger. He took a deep breath and began to scan the room he was in. A few large bookcases were placed in certain places, but the books on them were... surprisingly big, and especially placed very high. Worried, Flame wondered who lived there. This person had to be a dragon even bigger than his mother, and above all very strong.
The dragon flew out to try to pick one in particular, as it had a strange symbol. A sort of yellow circle, with a purple "S" shape. Intrigued, he approached to see what was written there and delicately ran his claws between the imposing books, and began to pull without damaging them. But the weight and volume of the book meant that every backward movement that Flame made, made it move very slightly. He fired one last shot and the book freed itself, carrying Flame in a fall, not having the reflex to let go of the book due to the effect of surprise.
However, the book and Flame froze three feet off the ground, staring at hovering in place as if they were levitating. Then they were placed very slowly on the ground, and Flame gets up without understanding what just happened. It was then that a soft reasoning voice, as if it was astral, was heard.
"Aren't you hurt, young dragon?"
The red dragon turned towards the area of the room from which the voice came, flexing its legs as if to warn itself. He was facing a very large cyan blue dragon, with a very strange outfit, and a necklace with a luminous blue crystal at the end.
"Don't be afraid, young dragon. I won't hurt you." Said the big blue dragon with the softest voice he could use, looking at Flame with a soft gaze.
"Who...Who are you?! Where are you from? Where are my friends!" Retorted Flame still under the panic of the appearance of the great dragon.
"A lot of questions for such a young dragon. Your friends will be here soon. You were the first to awaken in his place. It shows great strength of spirit." Answered the blue dragon, who started staring at the book on the ground, next to Flame, and moved on its own under the incomprehensible gaze of the red dragon. It opens right in front of him, at his height.
"You were wondering about the contents of this book. Please young dragon." The blue dragon sat smiling tenderly at Flame, the latter kept an eye on the large blue dragon while he read aloud.
"The purple dragon had returned from the other world it was attached to, for its mission was not yet finished. Despite its interior, Spyro.... Spyro!?" Said he surprised looking at the blue dragon.
"This book is about Spyro! Who wrote it?!" Flame wondered.
"It's himself, young dragon. You see, you are in the place, where the stories of every soul are written."
Not understanding too much, Flame continued to read a little and a bright light appeared next to him, making him divert from his reading, Spyro and Cynder appeared, lying in the same posture from which he had fallen asleep. The red dragon leaped at them and shook them.
"Spyro, my love! Cynder! Wake up!" Flame fidgeted as Spyro moaned trying to grab his beau.
"Hmmm come back to bed Flamy..." He blinked yawning and sat up, followed by Cynder a bit grumpy at being woken up, only to find they weren't in the Cheetah village anymore.
Spyro gets up calmly, knowing where he was, having recognized the place as Flame throws herself around the purple dragon's neck.
"Ho Flamy... Were you also called by the Chronicler ?" Spyro hugs him while Cynder looks around.
"Hope the columnist has a good reason to call us," Cynder replied, huffing his nostrils.
"The Chronicler? Are you talking about the blue dragon who taught Spyro certain powers?" Responded Flame who was beginning to understand what was being transmitted.
"That's it my beau. Where is..." Spyro broke off staring at the big blue dragon, and tears welled up in his eyes. Cynder frowned as she looked at Spyro.
"Spyro?" Such asked before following her gaze and she was also left speechless.
"I... Ignitus...." Say the two dragons.
"Hello Spyro Cynder. Nice to see you again." The ancient fire sage answered simply and calmly.
"IGNITUS!!!!" Spyro ran over to him and pressed his forehead against the chest of the one he considered a father, tears falling down his cheeks. Ignitus put a wing on the back of the young purple dragon by resting his muzzle on him. Cynder let them hug and looked at the big dragon with a wide smile, very happy to see him again.
Flame had a moment of jealousy, but the name Ignutis was not unknown to the red dragon. Spyro had told him about it before, and he was always on the verge of tears when he mentioned the fire sage who had sacrificed himself to save Spyro and Cynder from the Ring of Fire. Spyro grabbed Flame and pulled him towards the blue dragon, which snapped him out of his thoughts and slight jealousy.
"Ignitus, I present to you the dragon that is dear to my heart: Flame. Flamy, the one you see is none other than Ignitus..."
"The one who saved you and Cynder and whom you consider a father... I remember. I... Thank you for taking care of Spyro when I couldn't. And thank you for protecting Cynder." Said Flame with a hint of remorse, while the three dragons smiled at her.
"It's quite normal young dragon. Thank you for making him happy as he deserves. And you too Flame, you deserve the happiness that Spyro offers you." Ignitus replied looking at the two loving dragons with great pride. He looked at Cynder.
"Thank you Cynder for supporting Spyro in his darkest hour. I'm proud of what you and Spyro have done. Very few could believe what two dragons your age have or realize." Cynder blushed a little and retorted.
"You know Ignitus, Flame is a great hero too." She said smiling at the couple, Flame blushing, not getting used to this hero title.
It was then that 2 other silhouettes appeared in a bright light. Ember and Ashes joined them, waking up heavily yawning.
"Is it morning already?" Ashes asked as he sat up and rubbed his eyes. The trio moved closer to them and reassured them.
"No girls. We were all called by the chronicler. Remember that soul guiding dragon you were told about Spyro and me?" Cynder replied.
"Ha yes this dragon! It's a great honor! But why call us?" Ember asked.
"Good question... Why call us, Ignitus?" Flame looked at the blue dragon asking the question, while Ember and Ashes figured out who it was after the red dragon said her name.
"Follow me..." he told the whole gang as his face hardened a little. The book given to Flame levitated back into place, which made the red dragon realize how things worked in this place.
Ignitus walked towards a wall that dematerialized to reveal a long corridor. Everyone looked at each other silently, while Spyro was the first to follow in the footsteps of the one he saw as a father, glued by Flame, followed by Cynder and the two other dragons. This scene reminded Spyro of the last moment he could speak calmly to Ignitus, in the ruins of Warfang. Flame noticed her love's interest and licked her face. Spyro looked at him and waved back as he put his wing on top of him, and they hurried to be next to Ignitus.
"Ignitus... What happened after..." He couldn't finish his sentence and Ignitus gave him a little nudge before answering him.
"As I propelled you and Cynder out of the Ring of Fire, I felt light. Time and space no longer held sway, allowing me to stay by your side until the end. center of the earth. Where your predecessors, the past purple dragons, were able to lock Malefor into their dimension. Your enemy is no longer physically. After your victory, the ancient purple dragons surrounded me, and I felt the life come back into me. I woke up in the room we came from. The chronicler explained to me that the elders had designated me as a deserving dragon, and completely accepted that."
The puzzle pieces completed in Spyro's mind, but Flame asked.
"Ignitus, what happened to the former chronicler?" Ignitus gave Flame a very reassuring look.
"He joined the ancestors and predecessors of Spyro. He bonded with nature, to offer hope for the future." This sentence made Spyro smile because it was almost what Ignitus had him in the center of the earth, which allowed the purple dragon to understand how to use his power to save the world.
They came to another room round larger than the previous one, with again huge libraries, but this time, the middle of the room was a huge pool with water that changed color. Sparx who had remained discreet made noises of satisfaction while looking at the reflection of the basin, getting ready to drink. But instead of his reflection, he saw a huge field filled with butterflies, which he tried to catch, in vain. And he noticed that his hands weren't wet.
"Protective young dragonfly, this pool is not made of water. It is a pool of pure magic, showing what we desire in the greatest reality and truth." Explained Ignitus to the dragonfly who came back next to Spyro sulking.
Flame laughed when she saw the dragonfly's head and Spyro nuzzled the dragonfly. Ignitus smiled then turned serious as he approached the pool.
"Approach you young dragons, dragons, and dragonflies." Ignitus asked.
The group approached to be able to look inside the basin. Ignitus closed his eyes, and his blue crystal glowed. An image of the center of the earth, the place of Malefor's defeat appeared.
"I constantly watch over the balance of the world. Mainly the spirit prison of Malefor watched over by the ancient purple dragons." Ignitus explained.
"Don't tell me Malefor escaped or something?!" Cynder panicked looking at Ignitus who reassured her.
"Don't worry young dragon, he will never come back to our dimension. But I wanted to show you this..."
The vision expands to see closer to the purple rock at the center of the earth. Everyone looked carefully, and a reddish mist appeared forming a circle, and a dragon dressed all in black appeared in the red smoke. it was masked, deformed with a black fiber on its legs and gloved with a long metallic claw.
A red mist sprang from what served as his torso to head in a jet shape towards the core, and after a few seconds, a red crystal glowed briefly before disappearing under his tunic. Then a mournful voice from the void was heard.
"There is no.... fear.... in this nothingness. Only.... death!"
The masked black dragon turned around, and remained motionless. He stared straight ahead, staring at the group as if the magic pool had no boundaries for him.
"You can't...hide...I see you..."
At his words, his eyes began to glow and became visible out of his mask that completely covered his face. One dark bloody red forming an iris while darkening without a pupil, and the other glassy white without an iris with a bright red pupil. Flame stuck to the sides of Spyro who hid him in his wing, Cynder did the same with Ashes, just in case he saw the group. Sparx took refuge behind Spyro's head, making a sound of fear. Ember shivered in dread, as Spyro and Cynder were the only ones to meet her gaze fearlessly. The black dragon completely changed into a swirling reddish mist, which changed into a mini tornado that dissipated, scattering everywhere, this black dragon left no trace outside of this reddish mist.
The pool became as clear as before with an aspect of water and the group looked at Ignitus whose crystal no longer emitted light. Spyro and Cynder removed their wings from their respective charges, while Spyro placed his head above that of his love who buried his face in his neck.
"Don't worry young dragon, he didn't see you. It was a vision from the past. But I think he did detect the vision of the basin." Reassured Ignitus seeing the group a little nervous.
"Ignitus, what was that?" Spyro wondered as the whole group looked at the big blue dragon who closed his eyes lowering his head a little.
"I don't know, young dragon... I've never seen such a creature, and the writings of all past centuries don't mention anything. Which means..."
He opened his eyes, frowning.
"This dragon, or this creature is very much related to the power of fear... and that it does not come from the world... from the living."
"WHAT !!!???" Everyone shouted at the same time.
"And that's not all..." Ignitus resumed as his blue crystal began to glow again.
The pool slowly showed several scenes in different worlds as Ignitus explained what was going on.
"This creature of fear has preyed on a lot of oddly chosen people. Former of your enemies Spyro, and more."
"How's that Ignitus?" Ember asked, needing to be sure what he meant.
"This creature has revived enemies that Spyro has defeated." Ignitus replied looking at the pink strap.
The pool showed the various livid, but still alive, bodies of the masked black dragon's victims. Gnast Gnorc, Ripto, the witch, the dragon Red, the trickster merchant Richard, as well as the latest enemies, Tomas and Astor.
"Even them!? Are they dead?" Ashes exclaimed.
"No young dragon, they are alive. But according to my information, they are petrified with fear." Ignitus replied
"Too bad... Well, as long as they aren't free to cause us other problems. But what is this creature trying to harvest, or cause people to fear?" Cynder growled
"This is what I have been inquiring about since I discovered the existence of this creature, at the same time as watching over the balance of the world. I can intervene because it threatens this balance, which is why I tell you I summoned to her place to warn you young heroes. Your journey to Warfang may give us another clue as to the intentions of this dragon of fear." Planned Ignitus, gazing proudly at the troop of heroes.
A renewed sense of hope and vitality invaded the troop of heroes rallying to Ignitus. Flame looked at everyone, and seized with a distant strength, he stood on the edge of the basin and looked at his friends. they all gathered in front of him, watching him intently.
"Friends! I am aware that this enemy, whoever he is, is scary! Me too, I am afraid! But what I do know is that together, he will not be able to do anything against us! We will go to Warfang for us rest and prepare to face him. We will help Ignitus keep this world safe! We have defeated many other enemies when we never thought we could. We have gone through trials that we thought were insurmountable! made you stronger, and closer than ever!"
Spyro looked at him with great admiration and eyes sparkling with love his love, while the dragons raised a paw with a closed fist to show that they were with him until the end. Ember looked at her little brother and said that he was growing day by day to become a big and strong dragon, wondering if one day she would find the rare pearl that she needed. Ignitus looked at the young Flame and understood why the young red dragon and Spyro had such a strong bond. They were both leaders, great heroes.
"Hey! We need a name for our group for this new adventure!" Ashes spoke, excited to be allowed the greatest heroes known, especially to be so close to Cynder, the dragon she admired so much.
"Why not Ignitus' order!" She resumed, smiling, raising her front paws, which she waved aside, naming the name of their troop, as if it was displayed on a large panel.
Everyone got caught up in their role as heroes and new heroines, motivated by looking at each other and approving the name under the tender and proud gaze of Ignitus.
