I don't have much on him yet; but what I do have is as follows.
While originally and genetically his scales were a deep crimson red amongst similar colors; he suffers from dysphoria and is just all-around disappointed with the tribe he was born to. Since the earliest years of his life when he first heard of 'Nightwings', he had been obsessed with them, swearing on his life that he had been born into the wrong tribe, feeling as though he was meant to be a Nightwing.
With this in mind, Obsidian had his entire body inked in different shades of black, earning himself at least some satisfaction with life.
-And then there's a sudden break since I haven't developed the full story for him yet or even close up to this next point:-
During a fight with an IceWing, Obsidian had used his wings to shield himself from a blast of their frost breath, which is to explain why his wings look the way they do.
