Is that "Refreshment Time" ad on the screen based on a real animation? I vaguely recall seeing that at a drive-in decades ago.

It's not based on any particular piece of animation. However, anthropomorphic snacks are a recurring theme in drive-in refreshment stand films.

This is wonderful. The drive-ins have been closed for decades where I live, and I have such fond memories of going there as a kid and a teenager. This picture actually made me try to figure out the name of a stock-car racing movie I saw at the drive-in when I was a kid, as part of some double B movie night. Turns out it was Fireball 500 with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. It was already at least several years old when they screened it.

*sigh* I remember cool summer evenings with my parents at the Long Island (NY) Route 110 drive-in. Free amusement park for the kids, to give the parents some time without the kids. Happy innocent times.

Those food characters made me remember the ones that appeard in " 2 stupid dogs " cartoon episode where they went to a drive in, lovely characters also, they kinda remind me to the movies "American graffity" and "Grease"

This kinda reminds me of the Bakshi version of Fritz The Cat
where Washington Square is over-crowded with musicians competing for attention.

or Mods vs. Rockers (Quadrophenia)
