PS CS3 First Test
So, I just recently got PS CS3 (Photoshop CS3), and I decided to test it out. This is what happened:
I started with a few scribbles; testing the line-vectorness of the pen tool when I realized that the lines I made kind of looked like
Talonblaze. ...And yeah, what you see above is what happened afterwords. It's a really quick scribble thing, but I decided to post it here just to bother ol' kissy squishy tally. :3 He's going to kill me. I just know it.
Talonblaze belongs to himself, and my tail belongs to me. :3

I've never used SAI before, so I just downloaded the trial version and will try it out.
However, Photoshop is much better than GIMP. Although, I must say, for a free program, GIMP is very good. PS allows your to vector your lines, and has more of a selection of filters.

Except PS is one program that combines both, and if you pirate it, it's free and makes your life easier. Although, after trying SAI out, I really like the way that it cleans up your lines, and it gives the strokes you make a little more controllability than PS. But, PS cleans up lines better than SAI.
Actually the effects of PS that people use are greatly underused. From what I understand SAI nor GIMP handle things like filters, custom brush and settings, or layer/quick masking and with the new versions out HDRI support. Along with a ton of other features that GIMP and SAI just don't have.
You'd be correct, for most people, one or the other is usually sufficient. Every program has its perks though. I mainly like SAI's tablet control and smooth lines at times. And GIMP has some special file type codecs PS doesn't seem to work well with at times. Its all about what people are used to or need.
