When your life is in ruins. When you friends abandon you. When the world loses all meaning... there is still television!
And when you get tired of that, life is *really* rotten.

Reminds me of what happened to my favorite cooking show 'Cookin' Cheap'. Shortly after one of the original hosts died, the station canceled the program after twenty years on the air. When the surviving host tried to claim the copyright and release a DVD set, the station destroyed all 520 episodes.
By the way, I noticed that there's about a dozen clips of the All Night Show on YouTube (search 'cfmt ans')...

That was the year I got my original VCR...first thing I recorded (on the one-hour cassette that came with the unit) was the 'Polynesiantown' episode of SCTV. Still plays well today!
If cassettes hadn't been so expensive back then, I would have saved a lot more stuff from that era.

It's funny sometimes reading these things and seeing where my own history intersects. I vaguely remember visiting you once in 1991, if I recall correctly, at the Willowdale house. I remember the basement with the shelves full of models, including some kitbashes you'd made of your own egg-shaped ship designs. I don't remember any of the rest of the house. This was during that motorcycle trip I took whereupon my return I discovered I was jobless.
As for Disney's releases of Miazaki, the rumor in the fandom was that the contract stipulated that not a single frame be cut, and that he had control over things like the translations and the voice actors. I actually liked Phil Hartman as the cat.
I did see Kimba, and 8th Man, and Prince Planet when I was very little on our black and white TV. And probably even speed racer. I was 5, so I didn't have any concept of them being Japanese.

Yeah, you passed through Willowdale sometime before 1990, I think. You gave me an LS 1/1 scale kit of a Mauser that had fallen on evil days. I was able to restore it to full functioning condition. It was also on that visit that I had my only motorcycle ride -- downtown somewhere.
You visited again, summer of 1991 I think. I had just moved into my Parkdale apartment and literally got the last book shelves up when you were at the door. I had had no sleep or time to clean up.

Ah yes, The second trip in the '90's was by car, I think that was before the LeBaron died and I got my Subaru. I was visiting some other friends and then stopped by briefly to visit you.
The third time was when I was moving west in 93. I stayed overnight after visiting Jeremy Kidd in Montreal, and then moving on to stay with Ken Fletcher in Minneapolis/St. Paul. (Oh, wait, there was another stop with some non-furry friends around Detroit.)
Hmmm, so every time I went up there, it was in a different vehicle.
