Elim mentions his mother here, who he clearly has a great deal of love for. Natural.
Now he's here in Valsalia, truly in exile as he couldn't go home if he wanted to because of occupying conquerors.
I suddenly feel that in some future chapter his mother is going to travel to Valsalia and appear here, perhaps with other family members on a journey to find her lost son. Again, I could see this as she doesn't know if he survived the war or not and that not knowing is something many mothers can not live with.
I don't know if you have any plans along this line for later in the story but I look forward to finding out!

This is a rough one, but very good. You evoke exactly the correct emotions with this one.

Some deep feelings here that I unfortunately know. This is indeed how one can get PTSD. Even if you did everything right, you can still be entirely damned either way. Thinking about it will damage you, and you must put it behind you. But sometimes, it can leap forward in your mind; Replaying the scene over, and over, and over, without any control.

Anyway; Nice to see the posts, looking forward to more! ^^

And if anyone else suffers from PTSD; just remember, you can get over it. It does not have to consume you. We all get better in time.

And why it makes peace a nightmare afterwards as you suddenly have an entire army of your own population who now see your new subjects (who you're trying to peacefully assimilate or trade with no that you've gotten the land with resources you wanted, ) as subhuman, and this mistreatment will inevitably lead to resentment, and then to rebellion, and then to a new war, where they dehumanize YOU!

It's why they sent fresh recruits to occupy Germany and Japan... they knew they couldn't trust their veterans with power over unarmed civilization whom they'd been condition to see as less than human.

They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.

Oops has been slowly climbing in the ranks, and closed out last month at 72nd place and a little less than 1000 votes I think. Today is the last day to vote this month, and it's currently at 1035 votes and 46th place, so it's made a huge jump this month. Tbh.....that would be the same reaction as me or any oc my characters the first time they do something. This is a deeep sense of adrenaline and fear and anxiety mixed into one and it could trip someone into doing something to themself post incident.... i will not say but i know how this sort of thing affects the mind in a few people. Something tells me once the flashback is done he will either lose his mind or ask for a request to have a hug from a best friend. Sometimes even the strongest of us need to have someone catch us when we collapse under this kind of emotional storm.

Wow the kingdoms of humans(Dinnian and Beletam iirc) are able to equip their basic soldiers with actual uniform sets of armor? Very different from most levied ancient or medieval armies. Is Beletam an expansionistic nation going about its business or was the war with Dinnian the result of more special circumstances leading to war and conquest?

I’ve watched many great movies and shows about soldiers dealing with the horrors of war and most conclude with the idea that you can’t dwell on it. Yet, it’s scary to think it’s something you have to get used to. The constant questioning of your morality.
