I haven't thought of a title for this one yet. But its a work in progress photo of an oil painting I'm currently working on - 30"x40" and I think I'm about 18 to 20 hours in. The flash reflected off the oil so its a bit shiny.
The painting is based off a photograph of my great-grandmother standing next to a (new at the time) Jaguar. Ooooold picture. Anyway I called my great grandmother G.G. when I was a kid before she passed away, so thats what I've temporarily titled it, but I'll change it when I think of a more suitable title.

That's really kind of cool. I've always enjoyed seeing old photos of my own family, and the little glimpses of the past that they give. In a way, it's amazing to think of someone you've only ever known as your grandmother, or your great-grandmother, could have ever been your age. A bit silly, I guess, since obviously they're people like everyone else. But photos like this can bring them to life in such a vivid way. It's cool you got to meet your great-grandmother, too. I don't think I could even tell you what any of my great-grandparents even looked like. Anyway, the painting looks really good. The rock wall and the mountains behind her are absolutely fantastic. I really admire your skill with landscapes. The car looks pretty cool. Somehow, it always seems like all the really fun car designs are in the past. These modern things we drive today are just kind of boring by comparison. Very nicely done on all of it!
Thanks =) Yeah - it is weird to see old pictures of my family - when they were my age or even younger... I have some really gorgeous photos of my grandmother I'd like to paint as well.
I was pretty lucky in that I knew 3 of my great-grandparents growing up ... I remember visiting G.G. in Kansas City with my mom - when I was about seven - and I helped her hide a box of See's candies from my mom... and we spent hours on a big jigsaw puzzle together. Its fun for me to have memories like that...
And I agree about classic cars. So many of them are like works of art in and of themselves. And I do find that lacking in most of today's cars.

That is a nice tribute Kacey … you great grandma had a nice figure. I bet that she was quite pretty in her day.
The one thing that I like about oils is that you can get good blends with colours, and touch ups or easier to...althou tis a sob to clean, not to mention the thousands of brushs that you use per session. XP

To think this isn't even finished, wow.
Now this is fine art indeed, I salute you.
How would you feel about painting a picture of someone from a foto provided as a commission?
I know your commission slots are full but just wondering. Also what sort of price range would that fall in?

Thank you =). Yeah I've got the 1st and 2nd layers of color/detail on the whole thing - I pretty much go over the painting in several layers, increasing detail with each subsequent layer. At this point my great-grandmother and the car are still 1st layer rough - and the rest is 2nd layer. I usually do 3-4 layers in total - more layers/detail on the areas that I want to draw the focus.
I'd be okay doing paintings like this for commissions - price would depend on the size, and the photo.. I'm working right now with 30"x40" canvases which are pretty large - I've done a few commissions at this size in oils or acrylics and I've asked $3000 per, plus shipping. Its a lot, but they take a long time and the supplies are rather costly as well.
