A couple weeks back  timothyfrisby was thinking about changing his hair up, but it's hard to figure what would be a good look. I suggested a wig, and then had a very silly idea for a fun, glowy character: why not a disco ball wig? And he was kind enough to let me try drawing the idea.

So, um. I'm going to call this a mixed success. The thing you don't realize about disco balls? They're hard to do. They're a lot of tiny mirrored surfaces and that means having a lot of strange reflections that need to line up but not be exactly identical, and that's maybe beyond my abilities right now. I also don't think I quite got the way it should meet his head. On the other hand, I think I did a pretty good low-resolution disco ball, and I love doing all sorts of shiny effects. Also I feel like I figured how to draw Simon's glowy fur lines far better than I've done in the past. I also like how his right thumb and left fingers smoosh a little against the ball; that part works like I'd hope.

I bet he just gets a Mary Richards 'do.
