Disclaimer: This is a rewrite of something I wrote when I was 14 years old, mostly as a testament to how much my writing has improved over the years. The event’s here take place in the middle of the webcomics story.
Emo walked herself across the run-down bridge on Cabot’s large vast lake. She admittedly, could of flew above it with her wings if she wanted. But the thought of walking just made her feel so heavenly at peace. As she made it to the end of the bridge, she looked up noticing the cemetery up ahead. She didn’t like going to theses places like she should have been. However, it was the only place outside of town that gave her some sense of peace. She fluttered her wings slowly entering the cemetery with a sense of confidence.
She looked over, it was still how it had always been old, rusty and as if those graves had been there for centuries. She knew the actual reason theses graves were out here, but didn’t feel like thinking about it. Those demons were cruel creatures when they didn’t get their way. But so were the humans, it was like as if no side could choose the correct moral path. Speaking of that, she looked up noticing a giant statue of one of the most well-known demonologists, Caramel Walsh a once human demon who fought against this tension between species happening in the first place. She breathed a sigh, rubbing his statue with her hand knowing full well had Caramel succeeded Cabot wouldn’t be such a ghost town as it is now. She kept her gaze, staring at the large demon’s large chest and lion fur, “You know, your son misses you so much… I miss you… your grandkids would probably love to see you” she whispered, “Just wish you could of stopped this mess” she breathed. She slowly walked away from his statue still glaring over it, “If only I could get some sense of peace from this mess…” she froze.
The wind around the area slowly picked up, Emo lifted her black wings with a sudden jolt, letting out a small gasp as the wind gravitated towards the statue, suddenly whisking a purple and pink type of clouds before opening the astral portal. She shook her head, “W-What?” she questioned, “That portal never opens up like that without a ritual” she mentioned. The wind settle now between her, edging her wings towards the portal itself. She sighed, “Fine” she said walking towards it.
She walked in, the change of atmosphere becoming apparent. The astral realm was always so beautiful with it pink and blue sky down to the side with the few of Earth being seen near it. Entering this place as a psychical being was so rare. She was so used to entering within dreams. She brought in the views from it’s mountain ranges to its clouds that floated around the sky. She turned her head to the right noticing the forest next to her. She breathed a sigh, “Maybe some time in the hot springs will help ease my stress from Earth” she said. She slowly walked a head into that direction. The sky changing from purple to a gorgeous dark blue sky. Galaxies and stars making up it’s scenery. The forest trees being much bigger then the one’s on Earth next to them stood glowing blue rocks that Emo couldn’t help but to chuckle at.
As beautiful as this scenery was. She felt a small shiver in her body. Standing still for a few seconds as she noticed something began to dart in the trees. It seemed like she wasn’t the only one alone tonight on this trip to the realm. She gave in a breath, “Please just be a stupid druid demon on there nightly patrol” she thought to herself. She tried to brush off the feeling as she now finally began to approach the hot springs. The water having a stunning glow from the rocks and the steam coming from the hot water, made it such a seamless end. She was about to adjust herself over to the end of the pool, before she looked up at the sudden hearing of rustles within the trees. She breathed heavy, noticing something up in one of the branches their eyes glowing a bright red. Her wings lifted up terrified, making her jump in shock, “What the hell are you?” she demanded from below. They move vastly darting up from the tree again Emo suddenly positioning herself in a fighting pose her wings spreading up completely as she darted around waiting for it to lunge out at her.
Without her realizing it, a pink pentagram appeared below her feet. She let out a screech as the thing warped her out of where she was standing. Only making her reappear a few seconds later at the end of the pool. She looked straight ahead noticing a chubby red-haired demon looking at her. She tried to grab him violently, “You’re not funny!” she yelled he folded his bat ears,
“Well neither are you” he responded. Emo gave in a huff as he smiled at her, “Relax Emo, you know us demons like messing with our magic on you celestials and the morals” he responded.
Emo rolled her eyes, “What are you even doing here anyways Scar?” she asked. Scar nodded, sitting down on the ground looking over the hot spring,
“Oh, you know just wanting to get away from Earth” he responded. Looking up at his pink nails. He smirked while looking up at her, “But, I should ask you the same thing” he continued. Emo angrily feeling him use his magic once again lifting her up and setting her down on the ground. She sighed,
“I just… need a minute away from everything” she responded. Scar nodded suddenly taking out what appeared to be some type of vodka drink. He snapped his finger summoning a glass, beginning to pour the drink into it. Emo watched him in annoyance as he chugged it down into his mouth, “Everything’s been so stressful down there. It’s like we can’t do a single positive thing in that town without it collapsing on itself- are you even listening?” she asked as he pulled another shot.
He nodded his head, “I am” he responded. Pushing the shot glass near her, “Want one? It’ll put you mind at ease at the situation down there” he asked tilting his head. Emo pushed it back.
“No. I don’t drink” she responded. Scar watching as it pushed towards his chest, “Besides, I wouldn’t drink with you” she said aggressively. Scar folded his ears down,
“Well fine” he hissed taking another drink. She watched as he glared over at her, “Though Emo, if you don’t like me, I don’t understand why you’re still talking to me. You could clearly go somewhere else if you wanted. I know Gunther has a great hot spring himself” Emo gave in an irritated huff from her mouth, “Or, do you just want someone to talk to?” he asked.
She smacked her hand on her face, “HOW DID YOU GET HERE!” she said irritated. Scar set the bottle aside,
“Simple ritual trick near that statue of Caramel.” He responded,
“Oh, so it was you who opened that portal” she replied.
“Duh, just wasn’t expecting you to join me. Funny how the world works?” he questioned grabbing the bottle again. Emo watched him as he pulled out the shot glass again, “If only folks down on Earth could understand a musician’s talent” Emo froze,
“Y-You had that chance” she responded. Scar nodded,
“And then you cheated on me for my ex-best friend” he growled. Emo could feel herself boil in anger, “Reminds me, how is that moron doing anyways?” he asked, “Been years since I last spoke to him”
“Well for your information the two of us are doing just fantastic. He’s come his own boss down at Cabot’s hospital” she responded. Scar gave in a small sip of his drink.
He watched her facial expression as it looked irritated. Her hand looking as it was going to rip out a good chunk of the grass on the ground, “Mm, you’re not telling me something” he responded.
“I don’t need to tell you “She responded. Scar nodded,
“You’re up here for a reason” he chuckled. Pulling his body back. He gave in a burp chuckling slightly as stared up into the night sky.
“You’re drunk off your own ass anyways” she responded; Scar nodded
“Almost” he replied. He sighed, “you don’t have to tell me. It’s not like I care” he responded.
“You don’t care about anything” she responded. He adjusted himself on the ground. Pouring another shot again,
“It’s not like I’ve been trying to protect Cabot from chaos magic and letting the demon overlord Axel become a full dictator of the human race” he growled, “Not like I gave up my music career for it only to work at a bar close in town” he said about to put the shot in his mouth. Before Emo aggressively grabbed the vodka bottle,
“Give me that!” she responded. Pulling it away from him as quick as she could,
“Hey!” he responded. she kept it clutched into her hands. The two staring at each other eye to eye,
“See this?” she questioned pointing to it, “This is part of your problem” she responded. She gave the bottle a squeeze as Scar stared at her not saying a single word, “Now. I came up here, to have some peace and quiet, don’t fucking ruin it!” she responded. keeping the bottle in her hand, “Now stay quiet and don’t talk to me, you stupid bat!” she said aggressively. She turned herself around. Scar folded his ears. Opening his mouth for a few seconds before shutting it again. Emo looking away over at the rocks, as he readjusted himself, “I can’t have anything to myself” she whispered aggressively squeezing the vodka bottle.
He softly let out a sigh, “You know Emo I really looked up to you back in Cabot High… you know before that place went to trash” he said. Emo rolled her eyes, trying to tune him out, “You were everything I looked for in someone. A musician, someone who wanted to go out and explore the world and would defend everyone from chaos” he continued, she only continued ignoring him. He slowly approached her closer, “But when I found the ways of the dark arts and what our demon magic could really do. I lost control of myself…” he said
“Like I care” she responded
“And you don’t have to. I’ve been trying to own up to my mistake for years.” He growled, “I was selfish. I wanted all the fame for myself… I don’t expect you to forgive me. But you have to understand I’m trying to stop this mess as much as you are” he responded. He looked out in front of them. Earth still in their view from a far, “There’s a reason I put that dome over Cabot. I didn’t do it so no one could escape. I did it so humans or anything living creature on Earth would be protected from us and any other demon that decided to take on dark magic like I did” he said.
Emo shut her eyes, “Cassius” she said suddenly. Scar tilted his head, “Ever since he’s been out of the hospital things have changed around the house. It’s been stressing all of us”
Scar froze nodding his head, “I. I assumed it may be about him. I know my youngest forementioned he hasn’t been able to hang out with him much. It’s like the kids gone cold” Slowly Emo turned herself back around. Scar’s ears lifting up as she looked over at him, her eyes seem fully watery.
“D-Do you think he’ll be okay? He’s been just through so much” she responded. he sighed,
“I can’t really tell you. That kids unpredictable” he responded.
“Least you’re honest” she replied. Slowly adjusting herself next to him. Scar gave in a chuckle,
“It’s just what I do” he replied. Without realizing it. Emo’s hands slowly began to open the bottle of vodka. Scar watching continually as she lifted it back up. She laid on her side.
She stared up at the sky again, “In some ways… I wish I was back to being human” she responded, “If Cabot was an actual town without no dang species “war” we wouldn’t have this issue” she sighed. Scar’s tail lifting up and down as she slowly started drinking the vodka out of the bottle. Scar swished his tail watching her with determined interest as she chugged a good portion of it down.
She let out a gasp, realizing seconds later what she was doing, “And now look at me. Drinking and talking to my own ex” she continued. She looked down, “Octavius” she said using his real name at this point” -I think I’m a mess…” she froze. Scar let out a chuckle, tears were trying not to flow down her face. He only stood over staring up at her. The quietness of everything, only made Emo take a small moment to breathe. She turned her head slightly the bottle of vodka about half empty in her hand, “This does make me feel better” She gripped it, Scar inching himself closer to her, pulling her in for a small hug. She closed her eyes feeling his paws dig deeply into her back, almost as if he didn’t want to let go. He tilted his head,
“I miss you so much sometimes” he breathed pulling his body away before giving her a slight kiss on the cheek. She looked up, laying next to him,
“D-Do you still love me?” she asked suddenly. Scar nodded looking back over at the sky above them. The clouds and stars above dancing in such a relaxing poster.
“Platonically” he replied. She nodded her head,
“I knew it” she responded, “Some people just never fully get over someone” she sighed. Scar just stayed quiet as she let her settle herself down. The two of them looked towards the hot spring. Emo letting her feelings collect into each other, the more the liquor kicked itself into her body. Scar looking over at her as she smiled, “but that’s fine I needed this moment”
