In honor of, any minute today, the final episode of "Animorphing Time" (covering book 54 and the end of the series) dropping, I found and scanned a comic that's been just sitting around for two years.
YES. Yes, everything that happened to Arbron breaks my heart. Poor guy. Seriously, I desperately needed some sort of happy ending for him.
So I drew his death. Since it's not shown on-panel, I'm still rating it General. It is... still a book series appropriate for ages eight and up.
Context (spoilers):
1975ish - Arbron, an impish fellow Andalite cadet (they're the imperial centaur aliens that can shapeshift) and Elfangor's best friend, is on his first big mission to the homeworld of the Taxxons, a race of horrifying giant yellow centipedes driven by agonizing, constant, insatiable, nigh-Erysichthine hunger. They're not even controlled by the bad guy brain slugs, except the ones who wanted to see if the control would help - they joined solely for fresh meat. If you cut one in half, they'll eat themselves. If you morph one, you'll try to eat your friends.
He gets trapped forever in the body of one by staying in a feeding frenzy past the time limit. He lasts about ten minutes into the "eternity stuck in a body that feels hungry all the time" before trying to trick his best friend into shooting him dead.
He ends up left on the planet as part of an underground resistance movement, and declared a "casualty of war" and never sees any member of his species again. (Andalite Chronicles)
2000 - He finds himself on earth and helps lead the Animorphs to win their war, because the bad guys finally have access to a morphing cube - meaning, they could now turn into something that doesn't get hungry - and the bad guys refuse to let them use it and sacrifice their value as a weapon. They agree that if they help, the entire species will turn into anacondas. Except for Arbron. Since he's trapped forever. And now he's the last of his kind. (53)
2002 - He gets ignominously, offscreen, shot by a poacher. (54)
You can see why I wanted this poor kid to have a better option.
