It’s a Dahlgren Gun, which was a naval artillery piece developed by Rear Admiral John A. Dahlgren prior to the American Civil War. It was widely used by both sides of the conflict, both on naval vessels and in fortifications; like Fort Moultrie and, in this case, Fort Darling.
This one is based on the main canon located at Fort Darling (the fort that sits upon Drewry’s Bluff), which would have fired upon the James River Squadron during the Battle of Drewry’s Bluff.

I was just wondering about the background, it seems too realistic, but I didn't find clear clue whether it is drawn or taken. Then, I read the description!
You did a really good job to mash together your cool art and this great view of field. It amazes me that I still see no clue of border, despite I KNOW it is there somewhere, where the background ends and your art starts!
