A nice little materials experiment pushing the limits of displacement and normal maps. I think it's coming along well. Not sure if the side project will be on time for 8/8, but I'll try to have it finished by then.

..damn! If you ever go for anything externally, try to touch up on the outer fur material's normal, it's a bit too blocky against that HD maw.
Also, not sure what's causing it, but the tastebuds seem to be glitching out and turning black???
Very good stuff though.
(Tastebuds may be reflecting outer fur to be honest, you never know.)

you're pretty much right on both accounts. I'm pretty sure anyway. While I'm very happy with this piece as a whole. It was primarily to see if I could get a low detailed character look decently for animation. As you've pointed out it's pretty rough on the outside.
And I'm pretty sure the black dots are a strange graphical error, I was having trouble recreating the same results every render, so I believe it is due to texture/material not playing nice with the level of detail. But I guess it could also be an odd reflection of the dark fur colors.
Thank you for the feed back! ^^
