Along the Top Terrace of Bristol Zoo years ago used to be big cat exhibits. Since the 1990s it has been one large exhibit for the endangered Asiatic Lions and part of the managed captive breeding programme.
On my last visit the 'brothers' were still there, having been hand-reared as, following the sudden death of their father, their mother attempted to kill her cubs. Kamran left in 2019, paired with a lioness in Tehran, his brother Ketan was supposed to remain in Bristol, paired with Sonika, the lioness seen here, from nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park.
Sadly Ketan passed after a short illness shortly after the Sonika arrived, so the male here is Sahee, born at La Pal zoo, France.
