There is time between the space-pirate ship's dangerous adventures for the need for a relaxing hobby. Chaplain Kleinbrewer's hobby is researching the microbiology of yeast micro-organisms in a spaceship environment: Brewing anthro-drinkable beverages from processed malted grains in a processed water solution can occupy enough spare time. Yet, if necessary, the brew can be left on it's own to 'age'. Having a home-brewed supply of beers and ales can also be helpful in her Chaplain's work of improving the social life on the spaceship. That sounds like something likely. She would probably trade yeast genetic samples with similar minded sentient entities in the ports. An actual space-barrel of beer might be very appreciated, but a gift of the genetic codes of novel brewing yeasts might be just as valuable. The data might be cheaper to transport than barrels of beer. (But not as much fun to sample across a space-table.
as a home brewing hobbyist i can relate to this having a taste for "Wee heavies" "(hi test brew up to 18%) and "Fine wintered Mead" (Freeze distillation) made me popular at seasonal parties and gatherings. i tend to brew in "Small Batches" of 5-8 Gallons. Personal Fav: a Raspberry Hefeweizen Draft, that made the perfect summer Quaffing Beer. (adding ten pounds of red Raspberrys for five Gallons of Beer) poured in a Cornealius draft beer keg
