As some of you may or may not know: I work mornings at a local rescue, training horses + colt starting+ rehabilitating them to be adopted and rehomed.
A few months ago the owners rescued a pony with severe hoof overgrowth, to the point they were curled upward/around. Photo here: https://ko-fi.com/i/IU7U5D2XE7
This accumulated over the course of at least five years. Ignorance and neglect on the part of the previous owners resulted in this condition, but we all pitched in together and got the specialist farrier to help him!!
Hooves after one trim: https://ko-fi.com/i/IT6T2D4U19 I even donated one month of my Ko-Fi doodle income toward the bill.
Percy was on the road to recovery and gradually started trusting/accepting people. Various other medical/health requirements were provided including: Gelding
+ shots + deworming etc. However, he was still in desperate need of having his teeth floated, so a clinic for the rescue was scheduled with a vet, and he was on the list....
This last Friday, after what should have been a routine procedure, Percy began struggling to breathe... Having a reaction to something the vets provided him as a sedative. We're not completely sure what it was, the vet had never personally had that happen before, but it unfolded very quickly. Within not even ten minutes from when it started, he was gone...
This little guy brought so many smiles and so much joy to everyone there in the few months he stayed... I'm really going to miss him, but I'm glad we had the chance to meet him and give him a better life before the end...
I wanted to make a tribute of sorts, for everyone and for myself to remember him~
