Oh, wow! I found that the other day and was way impressed. Thanks for the kind efforts and also thanks to Shadow who suggested the idea to you as a surprise.
I have looked into pixel arts on occasion and always liked some of the classic adventure games on PC that were presented in somewhat of a similar style then. There still come new titles here and there nowadays where folks are really good at bringing characters into an expressive and stylish way to shine.
Bringing me to your illustration of my Totodile mascot Shiny. I really like how genuinely nice you rendered all of his character's details. He looks very chipper and honestly, in some ways I feel there is a certain dynamic to this image. Could pretty much imagine him excitedly rocking on his toes, waving his arms about as if he's happy to meet someone or perhaps as he has spotted something cool.
The facial features are really nice here with a big eaye expression that has a bit of tooniness to it as how much they remind me of some other cartoon Reptiles from shows and games. The headphones came out perfect here as well. In general I can say that with your sense for shapes and the pixel tones the shapes for even as smaller things like the knot on the neckerchief come out really well and I feel like I could show this sprite and people would no problem to distinguish and name the amount of teeth in Shiny's jaws there. Shows your experience with the medium already.
As I mentioned, there is a bit of that aspect of movement illusion for me coming from a few of the shapes on Shiny's body here. I found that cue for that notion mostly from things like how my Totodile mascot has that leaning forward stance going along with details like his handpaws fingers looking a bit longer somewhat akin to wingarms of the Avian sort, and the tail's blue spine/plate has that little bit of wave to it there where I could already see him burst out into wagging that to some tunes.
The vest on Shiny has some lovely outlining for the checkered pattern as well as the zippers and metal chain, plus you see the little fringes at the arm holes of it very clearly as well. In a way the vest looks slightly short with how the chain seems to follow only in the front and the arms closely match up with the vest's outline but that also kinda adds that charm to the character image where a small character has such cutely fitting apparel on him. It also accentuates the neckerchief, I think.
A lovely spritework of Shiny that I will treasure for sure and that makes me interested in what might have been what got you into spriting. Oh, as I haven't done so yet: My name's Marc. Jolly fan of games, animated content and their many fun and cool characters. Nice to meet you. I ask this to most artists but should I ever desire to, am I allowed to repost this to my gallery as long as I credit you?
In any ways, I am happy to hear back and hope your week starts of nicely, Veat. ^_^
Oh, and would it be possible for you to send me the original .PNG file of it? .PNG is preferred if you aren't used to save your spritework as .GIF of course. That would be cool to have the best file quality.
