Doggust 2022 - #11, Odie
June 19th, 1978. Comics.
I don't know what breed Odie is and I don't care, that's not why he's here. I had a weird phase as a kid where I was totally obsessed with Garfield The Franchise. It was one of few IPs that contained cartoon dogs who I didn't hyperfocus on, which makes sense but is kind of a shame given Odie's pretty cool. He's smarter then he lets on, has lots of weird physical quirks, and is always happy and supportive. In other words, he's everything about dogs that make them so endearing. I was gonna lovingly render the pooch, but I decided it'd be more fun - and more gnarly - if I took the cartoon route. Underground cartoons specifically. Don't touch me.
Concept art training. AI generated imagery + photobashing + 3D modeling + digital painting. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this one was mostly hand-inking.
