SO! This started off as me tossing a bunch of commission ideas to Fern. Blue's Clues themed outfit was the first pitch, then Scene Penelope, and from that we got into talking about various looks of the late 90's and 00's, and Fern let on that she was very cultured in rave scenes of the time and it all just kind of fell into place from there.
She posted a sketch and mentioned a bit about wanting a two tone color theme, initially thinking pink and blue but I suggested pink and green, my favorite color combo :D She was all on board and that set the mood for the rest of the outfit! Since she's the resident expert here I let her choose the stylings and I LOVE how this turned out!
I don't know if you kiddos were around for this style, but it was pretty prevalent when I was in school. The pants are especially recognizable, especially those free flopping straps! It was pretty customary to have pants with random loops and straps at the time, though I never had any myself >.>
Fern was telling me it was a trend to take some old kids sheets and cut them up and add them to the side of the pants to turn them into PHAT PANTS :D I love that you can even see that the two fabrics aren't perfectly joined up at the very bottom, DETAILS! :D
GOSH do I love all these prints featured! The side panels on the pants are SO adorable! Seeing all the stickers stuck around in various places is such a callback to that time too and it's a tradition I hope continues on forever! The doodads in her hair are my favorite, I've always been a fan of little plastic trinkets and hair clips. I adore that snail SO much, it's my favorite of the bunch ;_;

I'm surprised there isn't a pacifier hanging on a necklace. I thought that was typical of raves and fits in here. But I've never been to a rave, or really any dance party, so don't ask me.
Cute pic as always though. I was tempted to just type "Do do do do do," as a darude sandstorm reference but wasn't sure it'd come through in text.
