"But if you rearrange 100 words in a page of the Bible and paste it onto another page, then you reverse it and count every third letter of every other word THEN you'll find the 2012 prophecy!" . . . Yeah, ok. This 2012 fear mongering has gone on long enough. There is nothing in the Bible that speaks of it, there is no out of the ordinary solar flares, no random meteor, nothing.
Wait, I shouldn't say that, we all need to remember that Y2K happened, in 6/6/2006 the devil was released on Earth, and in 2008 the large hadron collider made a black hole that sucked up the Earth. Sure.
I noticed that 2012 has been one of the most profitable doomsday dates up to par, with countless survival books being best sellers as well as the movie raking in millions. The thing that worries me more is that so many Christians are victim to these claims. I remember two very important quotes. One, "Only God knows when the world will end" and two, "If you believe in 2012, then you are saying your God is wrong and the Mayan one is right". Even Mayan elders say that it's all made up.
I too was once scared by this ridiculous fear mongering, but I finally realized that I'm just buying into the hype. http://www.2012hoax.org/ , It covers everything from Solar Flares to Nostradamus, and even Wormwood, the "meteor" supposedly mentioned in the Bible.

I have to disagree. No one knows when the world will end. I believe in God but I also believe in other religions too. They're all tied in somehow with stories and saviors and floods. Christianity is the biggest religion but it also may not be the right one. Hinduism is a big religion but it also may not be the right one. Just because a book said so doesn't mean it's 100% right and we should make our lives boring and turn into robots because the book tells us to do so.
If a book came out and it was really old and said "No god or gods before me, I am the one savior and I sent my son before time began" Then people will start to follow that book. Why? because it gives a sign of hope. OF hope that there is something after death. There might be and there might not be. No one knows. No one knows if God exists. We just believe he does. No one knows if Allah exists but they believe he does.
The world will end someday but something WILL happen in 2012 and we gotta be prepared for the better or the worst.

I believe in life after death, but lets get alittle creative. Say there is none. "What meaning is there in a life that just ends? None". That's wrong. You're saying if there was no life after death you would just curl up and for it to come. Since there is no meaning to live if you can't live after death. If there was no life after death. I would spend my time doing the things I want. Having a fun and happy life.
I am a Christian in the most open sense imaginable. My mindset isn't just on Christianity. Some Christians live boring lives. The things that they do. What's the point of them living? Shoving religion down peoples throats. Crushing peoples dreams. Saying you will go to Hell if you don't believe in God. You could be the nicest person in the world. Give to charity and place people before you but still get sent straight to hell. What's the point of living if someone who doesn't believe in God but is a really good person will get sent to Hell to burn forever.
In my opinion, Christianity is the MOST CORRUPTED religion out there, and for some reason I still follow it. Oh ya, because I'm open minded.

All religions are the same, even multi-god religions have a "Main God" or a "King of the Gods". Christianity isn't corrupt, it is human beings who are naturally corrupt, just some of us fight it better than others. For this reason, and sometimes I hate to admit it, the Vatican has issues with corruption because they believe in infallacy. Also, remember the bible (again some people are going to hate me for this) has been translated many times and things could have been lost or added on in translation. But like you said, a lot of Christians are judgemental, yeah. I on the other hand believe that Atheists can be saved if they live good lives like you mentioned, if they were good, gave to charity, etc. And you follow it because you love its teachings. I am Native American and I follow both Christianity and thebeliefs of the Lakota tribe, which both believe in one God, in charity, goodness, and love.
As for the topic itself, I don't believe the world will end in 2012 however I do believe there will be something dramatic that will occur that will change our lives as we know it. Remember that a lot of Mayan prophecies while predicted the correct time, they did not predict the exact events. When they believed the Gods would come, the Spanish came. What I believe for that reason is, not that the world will end, but the world will change.

I'm Native American too. Ojibwa. I was brought up with those teachings and Christianity. I'm very open-minded about alot of things. I even researched what might happen in 2012. According to legend.
My dad told me a story about worlds. A few elders told 4 boys a story of how we are in the 4th world and all this stuff. Many years past and only 1 was still alive and in his 80's or something. He told people what the elders told him or something like that. I don't remember that story that well, but I googled it and here is what I found on Wikipedia.
"The Fifth World is either the present world or the next world, in several Native American beliefs which center around a cyclical understanding of time. According to both Native American Hopi mythology and Maya mythology, the current world we inhabit is the "Fourth World." In both belief systems, time is cyclical, and the end of one world is the beginning of the next. For the Hopi, the end of the fourth world is marked by the arrival of Pahana, or the lost "White Brother." The Maya calendar charts out this progression through astrology, concluding that the current, fourth world will end sometime near the December solstice in 2012 (dates vary based on interpretation).
The Aztecs held similar beliefs, but they believed we are currently in the fifth world, and that it is the sixth world that is to arrive next.
The coming Fifth World (where our present World is presented as the Fourth) is said to arrive following a cycle in nature affecting our entire Solar System, where our Earth births an egg (Mystery Egg, Hidden Egg) and then moves "up" within our system to reach its crowning place. All of the Earth's life is then said to be "raised" to its perfected-eternal form. Some tribes refer to this period of change as "Purification Time." During this period of purification, time is said to change where we must choose between the natural Time we have now upon our Earth (meant for us) and an unnatural time structure which removes us from nature and our opportunity to reach the Fifth World. It is told that everyone will have to choose between the two time frames—one leading to the Fifth World with our Earth, and the other (which will be very alluring, deceiving many) which will remove us from our Earth, taking us to oblivion."

Indeed. A lot of it can be left to interpretation. Something will happen I think, and while what I said is a theory, no one really knows what will really happen and it does not do us too well to dwell on it. It is better to be good and be prepared for our deaths, and not see it in such a grim way.
By the way off topic, but since you are Native American I invite you to join

Actually... the Mayans, Aztecs, and other tribes that people claim to predict something in 2012 never said anything about the world ending. They left no oral or written “prophecy” record about what would or could happen on or about the year 2012 other than a great age of 5125 years would end and another commence. There are dates that the Mayans reference well after 2012.
If you're asking an actual Mayan about the calender, this is what they have to say.. "Apolinario Chile Pixtun is a Mayan Indian elder, and he is tired of being bombarded with frantic questions about the Mayan calendar supposedly "running out" on Dec. 21, 2012. "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."
The various Hopi villages have slightly different versions of their mythology, so it becomes difficult to state "what the Hopi believe" with any accuracy. Not to mention the Hopi don't discuss their beliefs with "outsiders". The publicized "prophecies" are not of Hopi origin, but rather are written by others with only a false or partial understanding of the Hopi. The actual Hopi 'prophecies' were a warning against militarism, and fit with their pacifist viewpoint.

My history teacher in high school said the Mayan tribe that wrote that callendar up and disappeared around the time the Spanish landed. Instead of predicting the end of the world, isn`t it possible they simply never finished writing it because they were too busy fleeing the Spanish? I almost never hear of this possibility, and it seems the most sensible and likely to me.
Who knows. maybe it will end. although I doubt it. we don't know witch is why we can't get hyped up about something that is not proven. I don't personaly buy it. maybe it's because my parents already died in that colision with the comet in 88 that killed us all or Y2K when nuclear war heads whent off and planes fell from the sky. or when swineflu the next black plegue hit. or the blackhole in 2008 or the time the world ended on halloween of 2008 when "Jesus" came back and took his fallowers up and built a comunity in Arizona. of course what amuses me more then the hype of the world ending is the way that everyone is preparing to survive the apocolypse. COMON SENSE Will tell you that you can not survive THE END OF THE WORLD. A Box Shaped hole in the ground that you made out of briks will not save you. and Midi made an excelent point about the tribe. I will tell you what i will be doing that day. I'll be up on the mountain skiing the hill that will be all mine because the other skiers will be bussy surviving the apocolypse. and more importantly if it does end by some imposibility then yay I'm going out happy as can be. lol. The world is not going to end.
Only God knows when the end of the age will happen. We can speculate all we want but we don't know when Christ is coming back. What we do know is, this old world will pass away.
2 Peter 3:10: But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
