The next mascot we have is Al the Octopus from the Detroit Red Wings! He’s technically not a walk-around character like all the others, he’s actually a large balloon that the Red Wings put up in the rafters of their arena during the playoffs! Back in the old days, real (deceased) octopi were thrown on the ice at Wings games because their tentacles symbolized the eight wins needed to win the Cup back then. The tradition has stuck for 55 years and you can still see them flying onto the ice today!
