The symbol of "Inner Awakening" is an ancient and powerful sign used in Skyler's clans history. It means a great many things, but more importantly is that it is died into an old prophesy called the "Great awakening". A time where all the warriors of their clan will fulfill a great calling that would change their world forever.

When and if this symbol was bestowed onto the student warriors by the hands of their masters. It would be seen on their chest or back in representation of purpose and the paths they will walk. Where the arms and legs are representation of choices and the things they are to remember. Skyler was the only one known to receive it on his arm. Given to him by his master Terran for some greater purpose he want him to figure out.
