On a galactic scale, Likaya are not often seen off world, except for the Star Chaser clans that roam the galaxy for work or a planet to settle on. They are nomadic by nature and love to wander on their four legs, traveling place to place with sometimes no direction in mind. They are tall, canine-like species with antlers, a very strong sense of community, and very sociable. In fact, you could say they need that social contact or else they could fall pray to stress, anxiety, and depression if alone or isolated for too long. They have a strong need to not only be social, but also wander wide open spaces as well or they become restless and anxious to move. This is why most structures, rooms, and even space ships on Likaya have wide open areas to feed this natural need to wander and move about.
On their home world Kaya, nomadic clans are a staple culture as well as important in Likaya community. Due to the extreme tilt of their planet, where the poles are exposed to nightless summers and sunless winters, the equator and surrounding areas around it are the only hospitable locations for civilization. Though the cities and towns have their own farms and factories, it's difficult to set up towns or places closer to the poles and for them to survive. Nomads however are always on the move and travel to fertile land to grow crops and raise livestock. They travel on foot and with beasts/robots of burden to carry their supplies, food, (as well as their harvests), and settle in a safe area to till the earth and grow crops to sell back to the cities. The crops they plant are either normally harder to grow in the equator or grow a larger and healthier yield in the rich soil near the poles when spring comes. They even try to grow more difficult crops even after genetically modified. They also are hunter-gatherers and will go out for more food to eat or sell like tropical fruits, wild tea leaves, mushrooms, herbs, and wild game for meat, bones, and pelts to sell or use as well. However, every clan specializes more so in one trade or others than some others do, and some even sell hand made good too. (such as leather pouches, rugs, pots and vases, bone accessories or utensil, and etc.)
This wandering soul is Sal'lazya Durma Dru' Qezlel ((roughly meaning Sal'lazya Durma (of the) Land Owls)), or Sal to friends and family. We join her on a hike on a trail she found and enjoying the sights of the landscape her clan made camp near by. Her hike turned into a stroll and it's been hours since starting this hike, lost in the view surrounding her. Sooner or later, she will return back to her clans camp, or pitch a tent on a tree and sleep there for the night. She can always call them on her sat-phone to let them know.
A new alien race I made while practicing on world building a culture. I fell in love with my project and had to get them drawn. The one thing I wanted to make clear with them to people though, is they are not centaurs. They have a shorter lower body with a back side that helps them carry things if needed, but it isn't a full length taur, so I call them short-taurs (thanks to STR Redwolf for the idea)
