This began as a complex process. I randomly came across the article for the Black Jewel on Super Mario Wiki and then, out of curiosity, watched the intro and final boss battle of Wario World. It was interesting if not repetitive, especially as Wario punches for these sprite-things' freedom from crystals and they strike the crap out of the Jewel. Ultimately, Wario won of course but still a thought came.
I personally hate Wario. He scared the hell out of me as a child and still bothers me a little as an adult. I will admit, some of the adventures he goes through are interesting. But really, I wanted to see Wario get trounced once and for all.
Because I have recently been dabbling in Cthulhu Mythos work (not Lovecraft's stories but rather the stories they inspired), I immediately thought of the Old Ones when I saw the design of the Black Jewel. I made the Jewel bigger than it actually was but felt it was okay looking the way it did.
So basically, Wario vs. a Cthulhu Mythos beast created by Nintendo.
And thus, this picture came about. A finality where Wario didn't win, his greed and anger finally leading to his own destruction at the tentacles and fiery eye of an Old One monstrosity. I refrained from adding blood to the cap since Wario would likely either have been burnt to a crisp or tossed face-first into the abyss formed of the pretty colors (which I tried to emulate the melding using the "Airbrush" tool on Paint). I thought about adding the dark rainbow but felt this was good enough.
No offense to anyone who does like Wario. I just made the picture.
