☕~Cafe Blunder~☕ + Writing
It was nearing closing time and all the other patrons had already made their departures from the small cafe
aside from one who had been focused on reading his phone while his tea had lost its heat. He still periodically
drank from the cup but the frequency was getting slower. Elio secretly skimmed his phone too beneath the
counter he stood at. It was the end of his first week and already he was closing shop by himself, he'd panicked
when he had received the phone call from his manager that she was sick and couldn't come in but he didn't
have a choice, it was either this or he'd lose yet another job and money was already tight. He sighed as he
stole quick glances at the handsome patron who was taking another sip of his cold tea, eyes still fixed on
the phone screen. It wasn't because he wanted the man to leave, but rather Elio wished he could talk to
him without being an annoyance.
Elio gave one last look over at the man before starting the closing chores. Just as he was finished wiping down
the tables and gathering the stray cups and saucers on a serving tray he turned to head towards the back room
where the dishwasher resided. There wasn't even a moment to compute what happened, but just the noise alone
sent Elio into an immediate panic.
Elio's eyes were as wide as the serving tray he'd been holding, but the other man just lifted
one of the corners of his mouth and looked around at the mess.
"You sure know how to get someone's attention, huh?"
"I-I'm so SO sorry sir I~"
"You can call me Cyrus, and it's ok accidents happen."
Elio was fretting over what to do first, but before he could start anything Cyrus began picking up the broken cups
and saucers and returning them to the serving tray that had fallen beside them.
"Really you don't need to do that, it was me who was so clumsy, please I'll just-" Elio had grabbed a napkin that
had been spared in the collision and began trying to clean the other man's shirt to no avail.
"It'll wash, didn't wear the white shirt today since it's my day off"
"Yeah.. I'm glad too, I saw you this week while I was being trained...ah my manager's going to kill me" Elio said still fretting.
"I saw you too, you seem like a quick learner"
"Ah heh - I dunno about that, I can't even watch where I'm going" The cabbit tugged a little on the end of one of his
long ears, rolling his fingers on the soft fur.
"I'm really not upset, I'll give you a glowing 5 star review you just have to be good for the rest of the night, ok?"
Elio couldn't help but let a nervous laugh out, something about the way this guy said it seemed to momentarily short
circuit his brain. He could only nod as he felt his whole face flush. He tried to refocus on just soaking up the spilt tea
and coffee with the remaining napkins before Cyrus shifted and quickly stood high above him.
"I'll grab the mop" he said giving Elio a gentle smile and nod, Cyrus didn't seem flustered about any of it and Elio
wished he could be like that. He stared up at Cyrus for another moment before resigning to let Cyrus help him
clean up, he couldn't tell him no.
Together the two made fairly short work of the mess and eventually parted ways, but that was only the beginning
of what would become something Elio never though he would have, and Cyrus didn't know that he needed.
