Antares-Class Corvette
If the Void Born Empire never had declair War on the Alliance, the Antares-Class would never have the Chance to shine. The Class was commisiond decades before the War and was Mass produced because of her low Costs. After 50 Years, the Ships where decommissiond and put into the "Reserve Fleets". Some of them were "Scrapped", what means some Greedy Officers sold them off to the Black Market. All in all, nothing indicated, this Class would ever serve again or become a Symbol of hope. Then, the War Started...
If the Galaxy has a twisted sense of humor, is up for debatte. Fact was, the Alliance Fleet was totaly outmatched, Outgunned and criminaly lowly financed. It was no surprise, the Alliance Fleet pulled every availible Ship together it could get and this was the spark, wich brought the mothballed Antares-Class Fleet back to life! First, not many liked the Idea of sending Ships into Combat wich were older than the Crews who would man them. The Void Born Imperial Navy disregarded them outright as sign of a already broken Enemy. But then the small Corvette's prove them and the Void Born wrong! Soon, Antares-Class Corvette's earned Fame and Glory. Finally, their Time to shine had come! They became a Symbol! Of Resistence, of Hope.
Soon, Shipyards recieve from the High Command orders for New Corvettes of the Class, even a new upgraded Version was demanded. Soon, older Antares Corvette's where reclassified as Antares MK.I as soon as the new MK.II version hit Massproduktion. Both Models production got into overdrive and the Antares became quickly the most numerous Ship of the Navy. The spot as the Navy's "Postership" was already claimed by it.
MK.I's and MK.II's are easily recognizable, mostly because of their Wings. MK.I Corvette's have more "straight" Wings with a hole in it. The MK.II has forward Sweptwings and two heavy, Bowmounted Lasercannons. The use of Turbolasers were briefly considered, but where demed to heavy for the light Ship. Both Models share the same Torpedo armarment of 6 Tubes and 3 Twin barrel Massdriver Cannons. The Massdriver Cannon proved itself remarkably well against Fighters and Light Warships like Corvette's and Destroyers.
One of the most well known Ships of the Class is a non Navy one, a MK.I with the Name "Starhunter"!
Antares-Class Corvette MK.II
Weapons:
-3 Dual Barrel Mass Driver Canons
-6 Torpedotubes (3 on each side)
-2 Heavy Lasercannons
Engine:
- 1 High Performance Anti.matter Reactor, powering 2 large Sublight Trusters and 2 Highpower Lightspeed Truster.
Crew:
- 24 Maximum
- 8 Minimum
Speed:
- 2.900 KPH in Atmosphere
- 160 SLS (Sub Light Speed)
