With great notoriety…
"Mr. Arix! Is it true?! Did you topple an entire fortress by yourself and save the princess of a faraway kingdom?!"
"Of course! It was a daring feat indeed! Surrounded on all sides by stone and metal, arrows whizzing through the air like enraged hornets! I broke through the walls with a swing of my tail, and grabbed the princess by her dress in my teeth, as I flew off into the sky and away from danger!"
The young dragoness listened intently to his boisterous retellings, eager to get every juicy detail of his accomplishments and triumphs. They were absolutely enthralled with him, this powerful hero that none could seemingly topple. He seemed to truly have it all; good looks, a body like a war machine, and a breath that ignites even the most stubborn of fires.
"So it's all true then!" asked another in earnest. "The battles against demon and man, the bard along the road you rescued, your victory against a god of darkness!"
"Actually, that was just a demigod," Arix corrected. "Not quite as powerful, but a decent fight all the same!"
As they reached the center of the dragon's den, several more gathered to see him. All of them having heard the tales of the great Arix Ordragc, and his many, many adventures. They sat in a circle, all eyes on him, hanging on his every word with smiles all around.
"The bards sing of your every success, Mr. Arix!" said the first.
"Well, mostly just the one," Arix mused as he laughed.
"But you're a true hero Mr. Arix!!" exclaimed the second, before the rest chimed in agreement. Arix could feel his smile widen; for all his success and good deeds done, it never was something that registered often. Hero…the word rang well in his head, but what did he do to deserve it? Was each of these adventures truly what made him a hero, or was it more the act of selflessness that led him to those ventures the reason for the title? In the end, it mattered little. He was who he was. If they saw him as a hero, then he would be the best damn hero they ever knew!
"Now, let me tell you about the fight against the sea serpent…"
