Mario Kart is one of my favorite video game franchises of all time, and since summer is coming closer, I figured I'd do something that would fit with the season. This is my attempt at recreating the beautiful sunset shores of Cheep-Cheep Island, which is a track that originally appeared as the third track in the Lightning Cup, about halfway through the game (the GBA is where the Lightning Cup originates from, interestingly, and it wasn't the final cup in the game). Cheep-Cheep Island is one of my favorite GBA tracks, possibly sharing my #1 spot with the eerie Broken Pier, from the Special Cup. To be fair, it has seen some unofficial recreations in the CTGP in Mario Kart Wii through Mods, and it did in fact make one official comeback. That was during the Summer Tour, one of the temporary events within the mobile phone installment of the Mario Kart series, being Mario Kart Tour. Considering Tour's graphics are among the best out of any Mario Kart game, and Nintendo, at the time I am uploading this picture, has released just two waves of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC. But Cheep-Cheep Island hasn't appeared yet, and I believe there's a high chance that it will.

Oh, you should really try it! If you love MKDS (which I don't, I personally think it's overrated), you should give Super Circuit a try! It is in fact a perfect relic of the beginnings of the series, just like Super Mario Kart is, without those frustrating cheating computer opponents. Also like SMK, there's a life system, where you start with three lives at the beginning of each Grand Prix. SC is also the first game that has the Lightning Cup, the concept of Retro Tracks started here, and you can re-watch up to 10 saved Time Trials at any given time!
Strangely, this Time Trial re-watch feature isn't a thing in MKDS, which could've really benefited from such system. I don't want to be negative about DS, but I think SC's intro, credits sequence and characters are way more charming than in DS. Each credits sequence in SC even features a different race track per playthrough of the Special Cup. To be clear, this is NOT an attack on anyone who does like MKDS. I personally just find it to be not as good a game as many people say.
