One of the largest skinks, the Kelp Tongue descended from eastern blue tongues, they hang around the shallow waters off the coast of Drakdus. Their tongue mimics the bright purple kelp that covers the ocean floor in their habitat. Unlike their ancestors that primarily used their tongue to scare away predators, Kelp tongues used it to attract prey. They burrow under the sand and leave their tongue out, having it sway like the kelp to entice fish, eels and crustaceans that occasionally feed on the kelp.
Outside of hunting they spend the majority of the day basking, almost filling the whole beach like seals.
They also coexist with marine Beardrags, primarily used for hunting, travel or kept as pets.
