Actually they aren't genderless. They've been referred to as having genders before, despite not having any notable genders in the games.

Renamon herself said that there is no gender whilst eating with her master (forgot the name) and her mother. So yeah

Her master's name was Rika. And it's very likely she just wanted to refuse there being a difference (IE femanine equality. Note that in Japanese language there's no gender difference either). Her statement conflicts with Season 2, whereby Veemon was obviously male, and Gatomon was obviously female, as they both had gender mannerisms. Plus, her final form also contradicts her statement, as it's clearly female.

Just because they look like a male or female doesn't make it so. They in fact have nothing to breed with, which is usually the objects that decides which is male or female, what you say has been down to our life style of pinning something to an actually gender, like skirts to females and the liking.

Or boobs. It's because there's enough Digimon with female forms for there to be a defined gender. They aren't going to be giving Digimon breeding organs for obvious reasons. Namely it has to be acceptable for younger people to watch :O

Why not? They may not need it, but as they are made by humans, then it's very likely they were designed in the human image (just a little bit of a bible reference)

But they still do not have the organs to which makes a gender. They may seem female or male but the fact stands they don't have anything else to say they're male or female. If I were to dress up as a woman and I looked very much like one, would I be female? Myself, I'd say no.
