More Tuesday Portrait Cuteposting and Random Creature Design, this time featuring something that looks like pretty much every furry "closed species"/"fluff dragon" ever.
Find Me On:
FurAffinity ◈ Weasyl
While initially I think I was going for something like a deer/cow nose, after giving it a bit of thought I decided it looks vaguely beak-like in some ways--I sorta like the idea of these guys having a hard, smooth, beak-like nose that might have been useful for rooting around for food at some point in their evolutionary history.
Ah, "closed species"... if only the concept of "NFTs" had existed back in the 2010s when the "closed species" thing was a huge deal on DeviantArt... people paying $300+ for drawings of squirrels with candy stuck to their tails and dogs with food growing out of their backs still beats people paying thousands of dollars for algorithmically-generated monkey portraits at least!

I quite like these guys and have even already designed a possible alternate fursona one (his name is "Drawko" by the way)--but I still have no idea what to call the species, or what they actually are, or how I should tag/categorize them. They're sorta like birds or dinosaurs in some ways, but also more mammalian than reptilian overall.
Do I need to start selling characters based on some of my species designs? I haven't been on DA in a very long time, I remember the "closed species" thing seemed to taper off sometime after 2018 or so, or at least I wasn't seeing them constantly and hearing about people paying thousands of dollars for the privilege of "owning" a squirrel or dog with a cinnamon bun for a tail and a gumdrop for a horn, and I rarely see that sort of thing here on FA.
I'm aware of "sergal" and "protogen" but those both seem to be fantasy species open to the entire fandom to use if they want, which is pretty cool.
