The trees of All-Hollow's canopy were so vast that branches and crevices tended to accumulate organic matter, such as leaves or fine branches. Eventually, this organic matter was weathered and worn down into some semblance of a soil. This precious treebound earth allowed the growth of other plants on the trees themselves, creating broad swathes of grass patches that grew on the branches and an abundance of other epiphytes. It was part of the Ha'aowk's duties to range far and wide, digging through these canopy soils and bringing them back to the colony for cultivation of healing herbs and fruits that would be made into fermented drink. This did not make Ka'ahkai enjoy the task, reluctantly dragging her claws through the moist dirt and shuddering as she felt the loamy soil lodge into their curved undersides.
A gorgeous YCH I snagged from
mixmyxa to get a wonderful picture of Ka'ahkai doing one of her many Scouting tasks that send her ranging far and wide. The artist's high-quality upload is here, check it out!
