Progress on Dogress (Transformation Game Devlog)
It's still International Dog Day for a some people, so here's a little update on one thing I've been doing!
A little while ago I started working in earnest on my next TF-focused game, Dogress Bar (expanding on the pun from this pic). During the final 2 days of Bendzz's game jam, I made a mock-up of what the character might look like pre- and post-TF in order to learn how to use Blender and animate characters with Umotion in Unity, modifying this model by Chained-Tan in order to do so.
I’m not sure if this character, or even this visual style will be what I end up with for the final product (who knows, I might let my scope creep up a bit and try to do more than one character), but I definitely enjoyed learning how to make this!
If you have any feedback on this, I'd love to hear it!

There aren't a lot of games out there featuring multiple stages of transformation, so it's always awesome to hear about new ones. I haven't seen any that are done with this visual style before, and I think this is a really cool one to have done it in! The subtle snout growth is a nice touch! Are you able to share any goals you have for the type of gameplay it will have?
Sure! Right now it’s looking like I’ll probably stick to my current goal, which is sort of a cross between the bomb sorting mini game in Super Mario 64 DS/New Super Mario Bros and the breast expansion game Ameoblastler (NSFW).
The player rhythmically drags and drops objects representing the character’s traits into either the installer or recycle bin, for example, deleting her thumbs and installing dewclaws instead.
I’m not sure if I’ll make partial transformations possible by keeping some human aspects to allow for more replay value, because while it’s definitely scope creep, it would also be pretty neat, haha. It would mesh pretty well with the story I have planned out though, hmm….
Previously I was aiming to make a virtual pet (animation example), but I just couldn’t figure out a way to make that fun without the whole “keep a pet alive for days or weeks in real time” aspect.

Haha, the last pics your shared in the past about this project reminded me of GameBoy games and now I find it more like the smooth lowpoly style of the Nintendo DS. So much nostalgia and travels in time! ^^ Whatever style you decide for the final product, those inspirations are great!
On another topic, I discovered your work with your PowerPoint game Thief, then Escape from Kettuloch. They were so cool and their transformations were fun too! =) These two games are so different in terms of game design and I find it cool you always try new approaches. ^^

Oooh, thanks!
Yeah, I'm definitely trying to keep things varied so I can learn more with each thing I make, haha. Learning to edit 3D models was my main goal with this part of making this, and thankfully in the process I was able to improve on the story I was planning for the earlier virtual pet-type game I was planning.
This one will be a lot easier to make than that earlier version would have been, but with my classes starting it'll still take a while, haha.

I think you did good on the 3D editing part, nice work. ^^ I won't have guessed it was edited from a Korone model without the description.
I wish you good luck with your classes and to have fun with new academic projects! Take your time for your game too, enjoy the moments with your family and friends. =)

Glad you think so! I've finally made some time to start working on this again this month.
I'm trying to have the game done to in time submit it to the ongoing TF game jam, but I'm far from certain that I'll finish this month, haha
