I wrote fluff, then it got a lil angsty, whoops
Off days from Oasis work differently than you might expect. Sure, we’re given set off days, that’s obvious (thankfully), but we can also purchase vacation time with the primary currency in Oasis called solar. It might feel a tad dystopian, purchasing time off, and under normal circumstances it would be, but with the off days we’re given and everything else you can do with solar, it feels alright.
Zen and I took a vacation week off together. Given our infinite lifespans, we could theoretically work day-in and day-out with no breaks whatsoever. Fortunately for us, our gods are benevolent; even the ones in Infernal.
She seemed happy to cuddle in my space, her muzzle buried into my chest, but I quickly realized she fell asleep. Most hexits don’t sleep, but Zen and I were reborn, so the concept isn’t quite so foreign to us. I let her sleep for a while, drifting in and out myself, before light stirring near my shoulder prompted me to nudge her a little.
“Zen, honey, wake up,” I murmur, nuzzling my muzzle into the top of hers. She makes a barely audible whining sound, then nuzzles deeper. I chuckle quietly, then decide to play with her a little. I slide my arm around behind her, brushing the bare skin of her ears and blowing some air onto them. She twitches ever so slightly, and I keep dragging my arm back to her back. She’s very ticklish, and it usually wakes her up.
“Last chance, my love.” I prompt. Again, she barely moves. I dig my fingertips gently into her shoulders, near her underarms, and she smiles, which quickly turn into light giggles. “Come on, you can do it. Let me see those pretty eyes again, hmm? I miss them.”
She laughs shyly, squeezing her eyes shut, but I decide a laugh is enough. I stop, and her eyes flutter open. “There we go…” I murmur, kissing her cheek. “Good morning.” I whisper adoringly.
“Mhhf,” She replies sleepily. “Hi.”
“Did you sleep well?”
“I did,” She replies, smiling at me, though she still seems partially asleep. “Did you have to wake me up?”
“I do love cuddling, but it’s been a couple of days, dear, we have other things to do together.”
“Mm, good point…” She mumbles.
“Would you like to go out for breakfast?” I ask her, nuzzling her neck.
“Mhh, that sounds nice. Do you know what time it is? Y’said it’s been days.”
“Most places in the mortal realm serve breakfast all day, so it doesn’t matter. Besides; we shouldn’t need to adjust our schedule to theirs.”
“But theirs are so much busier and their lives are shorter, Hazel.” She counters, giving me a sad look. “I would know…”
I sigh softly, nudging my forehead to hers. “I know, hon, I know. You’re alright, and so are they. We don’t have to worry, like I said, okay? Some places have all-day breakfast. They tend to be cozier, anyway.”
She sniffles and nods, leaning off of me. “M’kay, you’re right… Lemme get ready.” She says, standing up. I follow suit, and she looks at me, lingering tears in her eyes. “Do you ever get attached?”
“Dear, I do. Every time you tell me about a mortal you met, it reminds me of the woman I loved before you and how much I miss her. But… nothing is forever. Not even us. We just need to make the most of the time we have. especially together. I cherish every second we have; even asleep, because I--.”
“St-stop,” She says, wiping her eyes. “I’m sorry, I-I can’t… I’m overwhelmed.”
“That's okay, I understand. You’re gonna be alright, Zen, I promise.” I kiss her cheek. “I promise…”
