70 years ago, engineers thought spacesuits were going to be rigid. One artist, Frank Kelly Freas, changed all that in 1953 with an illustration for The Ark of Mars.

Oh those are good. Its a fun read by the way. Unauthorized sequel to War of the Worlds. I call it Star Gate 1898. Was the first early sci fi story with space suits, life support umbilicles with telephones, asteroid mining. Going to the moon as a shake down cruise before heading off to Mars... Started the whole Aliens built the Pyramids thing...
