As expressed elsewhere, I appreciate this look into the teacher/student dynamic with Kitana and collie. The dracovix seems like a bit of a stern but committed and caring professor, which feels nice.
And I'll keep this in mind when you and others talk about the appeal of growing - from the impression I got, there's an aspect of setting goals, achieving them, and smashing past.
If that is accurate, I can identify a bit as I generally desire to expand in knowledge and insight, learning more and more. It's fun to challenge oneself and overcome difficulties. Pushing the boundaries of one's physical stature in size and height might be another kind of "how much more can I become?"
Perhaps? I could be totally off.
(And it's fine to respond to me elsewhere if you like - I get that FA comments can be more difficult to manage.)
I also appreciate your effort to blend how the collie felt and thought about the matter of embiggening, and the physical sensations, impact on her surroundings, etc. As a very sensory-detail oriented fox, that's more vivid for me to imagine. E.g. the notion of trees like carpet, pawprints demolishing them effortlessly…
(Also, heck. The difference in scale of being no bigger than a single one of someone's toes is.. quite the flustering thought. Especially to then reverse that, while still respecting folks' desire to not be small.)
