An early piece of work on textured (coquille) paper using charcoal and black ink. I intended to use gouache to add the dandelion seeds, but the gouache smeared the carbon so the gouache dandelions were actually painted onto an acetate overlay. I couldn't remove the smears on the original paper, so things looked a little fuzzy around the dandelion-seeds...But that was okay with me at the time.
Still one of my favorite black and white pieces. I could kick it apart six ways from Sunday there are so many flaws in it that I can see now...But I still enjoy it and remember what an accomplishment it was way back when.
She holds them to her heart,
keeping them where they'll be safe,
clasped within her very marrow,
dandelions in a vase.
