I had to look that one up. I think if I encountered a Displacer Beast with a laser in my hand, the red dot would be securely mounted on a high-power pistol...

they are quite interesting monsters indeed. their sworn enemies are a folk of canine-looking otherworlders named Blink Dogs, which can do the same form of fast teleportation, but are on the other spectrum of alignment.

Wouldn't the displacer refract the dot?

So by rights, they should never be able to catch the dot. :(

the displacing is a spell-like natural ability allowing them to teleport short distances at will, called "blinking". I doubt it can interfer with coherent light.

besides, you can never catch the red dot. only Chuck Norris can.

I think I got First Edition on the brain, where the dogs teleport-blinked and the displacers warped light.
