background info: and if we were to run into such a species, what would be our reaction? how would we reconsile this extreme type of altruism with our "based on need" altruism? (one could even call it hypocrticial altruism.) humans are a paradox in that we cherish individuality, but consider altruism and self-sacrifice to be an noble goal (while self-sacrifice is simultaneously to be avoided as much as possible). and we wouldn't sacrifice ourselves for a complete stranger, even if that stranger is as human as we are. we will *always* pick a friend/family over a stranger. in a species were individuality doesn't matter, were everyone is abolsutely equal, would we try to change these people's behavior, make them more "humane", even when it runs completely counter to their nature and biology, their entire societal structure?
