MK9 Nitro Track Concept - ''Abandoned Zoo''
On my iPhone, I made a story-focused adventure playlist about two rats discovering an old abandoned zoo, which I named ''Rat Pals: Gauze Garden''. When looking back at this adventure music list, an idea for a Mario Kart race track came into my head -- why not use the abandoned animal park setting for a track! So I went ahead and made this piece of art. It was originally going to be WAY bigger of a track than I eventually ended up making, but despite being essentially just a circle, I made the most of it and integrated as much ideas into this course as possible, resulting in a race track set in an everyday zoo setting, but still with enough variety -- after all, zoos are supposed to feature many different animal species, am I right?
Here's my description of the track --
🐵 You start off at the Starting Line, which simultaneously functions as the zoo's entrance. You could compare it with how Wii U Water Park's Start/Finish Line is the park's entrance in the same way. When facing the line from the starting position, then the ''Welcome to the Zoo!'' sign will be on your right. A quick straightaway is the first part you'll drive on after blasting away with a Rocket Start; you'll take a turn to the left and underneath an overhanging African tree, with behind it, the first stay of the park -- the Savannah. This place features Giraffes, Rhinos, Lions and Zebras. Across from it is a big, fenced pool where Sea Lions are jumping in and out of the water and through a rusty hoop. Next up, there's a split path, taking you through a brown dirt path with some benches in the center, plus many big round trees Mario style. After that, an aquarium with Cheep-Cheeps, a Super Mario Bros. style mini castle, and SM64's Unagi makes for a breathtaking view of the typical marine life that was left behind when this animal park got abandoned. Despite this, the indoor aquarium rooms still look gorgeous, with beams of light shining through the glass windows of the water tanks and onto the deep blue floor. A second split path must be taken, which leads you out of the aquarium and across some abandoned stays made of brick, with some holes in them here and there. The road next to these dilapidated buildings, is made up of thick grass which contrasts beautifully with the earthy browns of the stays. On the other side is a cold, rocky area where some Penguins are wobbling and sliding around, referencing another SM64 level, being Cool Cool Mountain. Next is the final act of the race track, which consists of a metal cage that must be glided through using the Glider mechanic from MK7 and MK8. This part sees the racers fly over a rushing river surrounded by the bright yellow sand of the wasteland this zoo sits on. The final stay is a deep green-colored one, with hay inside, which some Chimps use to relax. A final slanted turn will take you back to the Finish Line. This race has five laps.
